Providing support to young people with diverse genders, bodies and sexualities.

Open Doors Youth Service is a comprehensive service for young people who identify as gender queer, gender questioning, gender non-conforming, gender diverse or
transgender. Can we help to keep their services growing in support of these young
people? Donations to Open Doors Youth Service are tax deductible. Place your donation in the September envelopes available in the Narthex, and place it in the donation boxes, in the collection, to the Cathedral Office Monday-Friday, or give it to a warden.
If you wish to have a receipt, please provide your name and address on the envelope.
Using electronic banking, make a bank transfer to BSB 034 003 Account No.385378.
Please narrate your deposit “Outreach 09” and also email outreach@stjohnscathedral.com.au to inform us of your deposit, (including the amount), and to provide your postal/email details for the receipt. For credit card payments, please phone the cathedral office during normal business hours Monday- Friday (07 3835 2222). Open Doors Youth Service will provide receipts direct in late
October or early November. Thank you.

General News

Open Doors Youth Service (ODYS) supports young people aged 12-24 who identify as
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Pansexual, Sistergirl or
Brotherboy (LGBTIQAP+ Sistergirl & Brotherboy). Operating across South-East
Queensland, ODYS values participation, respect, diversity and empowerment.
The ODYS vision is to connect all LGBTIQAP young people with culturally and
developmentally appropriate services. From their Fortitude Valley base, ODYS provides
individual, group-based, and family support to enhance connections to culture, and
community. For young people outside South-East Queensland, ODYS offers links with safe
and inclusive services in other areas as required. The support offered includes case
management, individual support and counselling, alcohol and other drug support, social
groups, mediation and advocacy, assistance with housing, employment, education and
emergency supply of food, toiletries and clothing.
ODYS Youth Workers cover all programs. Each young person who comes to Open Doors
Youth Service has an initial appointment with one of these Youth Workers, all of whom
have lived experience - they understand what it is like to be a part of the LGBTQIAP+
community. During this individual appointment, a Youth Worker will introduce each
young person to all that Open Doors can offer them.
Open Doors Youth Service also attends local schools for Wellbeing Expos, Workshops, and
Assembly Presentations, and provides youth-friendly LGBTIQAP+ resources.
