AfriBeads products are made by a group of 30 women called the AfriBeads Women's Association. Many millions of people live in extreme poverty in Africa, struggling to survive each day. Our social enterprise creates sustainable income for these artisans, who are then able to care for their families and send their children to school.
The Fashion accessories are hand-made from recycled paper cut into triangles and rolled into beads, then lacquered and made into unique creations. The Baskets, mats and bags are hand-woven using natural fibres and traditional African techniques. Fashion and homewares are made from fabrics of traditional patterns and vibrant colours sourced at the local markets in Kampala.

This project was established in a subsistence farming area where unemployment is close to 80%. Over 400 people have become skilled in various beadwork, basketwork and sewing techniques as a direct result of this project. Crafters vary from a regular core group, to other who produce irregularly depending on their comm9ittments (birth of a child, hut building, cropping). This project has also helped to build a creche for the community as well as implementing a food scheme. Some of the older boys are using their incomes to help put themselves through school. With continued growth we hope to give the crafters and even greater chance to change their lives.
